CBG (cannabigerol) is the morning cannabinoid — concentration, cognitive energy, joint comfort, and active recovery. This complete guide explains how it works, how to distinguish it from CBD, and which product to choose based on your profile.
Information, not medical promise. CBG is a wellness supplement, not a medication. Effects vary from person to person. No therapeutic claims are made.
What is CBG (cannabigerol)?
Precursor Cannabinoid
CBG (cannabigerol) is often called the "mother molecule" of cannabinoids: it is from cannabigerolic acid (CBGA) that CBD, THC, and CBN are formed during hemp maturation. Present in small quantities in standard varieties, it is now cultivated in varieties specifically selected for their high CBG content. Non-psychoactive, its profile is distinctly geared towards daytime use, concentration, and active recovery.
The "mother molecule" of cannabinoids
CBGA (the acidic form of CBG) is the biosynthetic precursor to CBD, THC, and CBN. In CBG-rich varieties, the decarboxylase enzyme converts CBGA to CBG before it is converted into other cannabinoids. This mechanism explains why CBG varieties are harvested earlier than classic CBD varieties.
CBG has an affinity for CB1 and CB2 receptors, but also for alpha-2 adrenergic receptors (energy, alertness) and 5-HT1A receptors (mood). It also inhibits the reuptake of anandamide, the endogenous "bliss cannabinoid" — contributing to a feeling of well-being and mental clarity without psychoactive effects.
Not to be confused: CBG ≠ CBD. CBD is versatile (stress, pain, sleep), CBG is more targeted at cognitive energy, concentration, and anti-inflammation. Used together, they create a particularly powerful entourage effect for active profiles.
How does CBG affect the body and mind?
Mechanism of action
Two complementary axes of action make CBG a unique cannabinoid: cognitive activation and inflammation modulation.
01
Noradrenergic axis — energy & focus
CBG inhibits norepinephrine reuptake via alpha-2 adrenergic receptors. Result: increased availability of this neurotransmitter linked to wakefulness, concentration, and motivation — without the cortisol peaks of caffeine.
02
CB2 axis — anti-inflammation
Via CB2 receptors (primarily present in the immune system and peripheral tissues), CBG modulates the inflammatory response by reducing the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-6 and TNF-α.
03
CBD + CBG synergy
When combined with CBD, CBG benefits from the entourage effect: CBD amplifies anti-inflammatory properties and manages anxiety, while CBG activates energy and concentration. An ideal duo for active or athletic profiles.
What preliminary studies say
Preclinical studies (2020–2023) suggest that CBG has neuroprotective (Huntington's cell study, 2015), intestinal anti-inflammatory (colitis, 2021), and anti-proliferative (cell studies) properties.
Important: these data come from preliminary or in vitro studies. They do not constitute clinical evidence in humans and are not therapeutic claims.
Timing: when to take CBG?
Sublingual oil: upon waking or 30 mins before a work/sport session
Energy infusion: at breakfast or during the 10 am break
Anti-inflammatory capsules: in the morning on an empty stomach or after sport
Infustick / Pre-rolls: before exertion or during concentration phase
⚠️ Do not take at night — CBG can disrupt sleep in sensitive individuals. Reserve CBN for nighttime.
What is your CBG profile?
4 profiles
CBG is not used in the same way depending on your main objective. Identify your profile to choose the right product.
🧠
Focus & Concentration
Difficulty concentrating, mental fog, lack of cognitive clarity. CBG acts on the noradrenergic axis to promote wakefulness and concentration — without the jitters of caffeine. Combined with Ginkgo or Ginseng, the effect is amplified.

Energy & Vitality
Chronic fatigue, midday slump, lack of drive. CBG is the "stimulating" cannabinoid in the range — morning, active, energizing profile. To combine with an energy tea or a CBG infustick.

Sports Recovery & Anti-inflammation
Joint pain, muscle soreness, post-exercise inflammation. CBG via CB2 modulates the inflammatory response. Combined with turmeric (capsules), it offers a particularly effective natural anti-inflammatory synergy.

CBG, CBD, CBN: the 3 cannabinoids for 24h
CBG · CBD · CBN
Each cannabinoid has a precise time profile and axis of action. Understanding this complementarity allows for a tailor-made routine.
Curcumin (the active ingredient in turmeric) and CBG share a complementary anti-inflammatory mechanism: curcumin inhibits NF-κB (a central inflammatory pathway), while CBG modulates cytokines via CB2. Together, they offer a more complete action than when used in isolation.
Anti-doping: if you are an athlete subject to controls, use only our Broad Spectrum (0% THC) products. CBD and CBG as such are not on the WADA list (prohibited), but THC is — even at residual doses, a positive test is still possible with certain Full Spectrum products. Always indicated on the product sheet.

FAQ — CBG, Energy & Inflammation
What is CBG and how is it different from CBD?⌄
CBG (cannabigerol) is the precursor to all cannabinoids. Where CBD is versatile and focused on balance/stress, CBG is more stimulating and targeted at cognitive energy, concentration, and anti-inflammation. Its profile is exclusively for morning use — CBD can be taken at any time of day. Discover our CBG collection →
Can CBG replace caffeine?⌄
Not exactly, but they are complementary. Caffeine blocks adenosine receptors (fatigue), CBG activates the noradrenergic pathway (wakefulness). Combined, they can offer more stable and less anxiety-provoking energy than caffeine alone. Many use Jeannette Focus Oil → with their morning coffee.
Is CBG really anti-inflammatory?⌄
Yes, according to available studies. CBG inhibits the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines via CB2 receptors. In practice, it is valued for joint comfort, post-exercise muscle recovery, and diffuse pain. Combined with turmeric, the effect is amplified. See Mobility Capsules → and the Mobility Pack →
CBG and sport: which product to choose for anti-doping controls?⌄
For athletes subject to anti-doping controls, use only Broad Spectrum (0% THC) products. CBD and CBG as such are not on the WADA (prohibited) list, but THC is — even at residual doses, a positive test is still possible with certain Full Spectrum products. Our Broad Spectrum 10/10/10 Oil → is specifically formulated for this profile.
Can you take CBG in the morning and CBN in the evening?⌄
Yes — this is even the recommended routine for 24h coverage: CBG in the morning (activation, focus, anti-inflammation) + CBD during the day (balance, stress) + CBN in the evening (falling asleep, recovery). This is exactly the integrated approach in our CBD CBG & CBN routine packs →
Can CBG disrupt sleep?⌄
In sensitive individuals, taking CBG in the evening can delay falling asleep due to its stimulating effects. The golden rule: never use CBG after 4 pm. If you have difficulty sleeping, consult our CBN Sleep guide →
CBG and medication: possible interactions?⌄
Like CBD, CBG can inhibit certain cytochrome P450 enzymes involved in drug metabolism. If you are taking medication (especially anticoagulants, antiepileptics, antidepressants), consult your doctor before use. This precaution applies to all cannabinoids.
Is CBG legal in France?⌄
Yes. CBG is legal in France provided that the product complies with the THC threshold < 0.3% and is accompanied by a COA from an independent laboratory. All our CBG Focus & Energy products → comply with this framework.
